Wig Care & Styling - Human Hair
Let's get down to basics. It all begins with the type of hair... there are three different types of hair used in wigs - human hair, synthetic hair and heat friendly synthetic fiber. There are different methods and products for maintaining wigs depending on the type of hair used.
Human hair offers the most natural look and feel and is remarkably soft with a shine and movement that is not easily duplicated in synthetic hair. It is also extremely versatile. Human hair can be cut and styled to suit your personal tastes. Even though it is more expensive, with proper care it is more durable and can last more than a year.
Washing
-
Before washing a human hair wig, gently remove any tangles with a loop pin wig brush or a wide tooth comb.
-
Fill a sink with cool water and emulsify a capful of human hair wig shampoo onto the wig.
-
Gently lather the hair with the wig shampoo whilst making sure that the hair is travelling in a downward direction - do not rub.
-
Rinse thoroughly in cool water until the water runs clear.
-
Apply a human hair wig conditioner, avoiding the base of the wig cap as this can cause hair shedding.
-
With your fingers, work the conditioner through the ends of the hair.
-
Rinse thoroughly in cool water.
Drying
-
Wrap the wig in a towel and gently pat to remove excess water.
-
Apply an Argan oil to the bottom half of the wig.
-
Place the wet wig on a wig stand and lightly fluff with fingers and allow the wig to dry naturally.
-
Blowdry with low heat using a downward motion to style human hair to ensure the hair stays smooth.
-
When hair is slightly damp apply a heat treat thermal spray to protect the hair from any heat damage.
-
Using a loop pin hair brush, work through 2 inch sections directing the hair in the shape you want it styled.
Styling
-
Always use a heat treat thermal spray prior to using any heat styling tools.
-
Use an argan oil hair treatment to help speed up the drying time, smooth the hair without weighing it down.
-
Do not brush a wig when wet, gently use a loop pin wig brush or wide tooth comb until the hair is dry.
-
We do not recommend that you colour or perm wigs or hairpieces.
-
Use a recovery mask to help keep hair vitality - apply mid lengths to end and leave for 15-20 minutes then rinse in cold water.
